The Osun State Police Command has dismissed circulating social media reports alleging a banditry invasion in parts of the state, describing the claims as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the Command had conducted extensive security assessments and intelligence operations, none of which confirmed any banditry activity in the state.

The Command expressed concern over the spread of unverified security information, warning that such misinformation could create fear, tension, and disruption among peaceful residents.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, cautioned individuals and groups responsible for creating and sharing false security alerts, urging them to desist immediately.

He stressed that spreading unverified reports that could incite fear or public disorder undermines security efforts and will not be tolerated.

According to him, anyone found guilty of circulating false information capable of causing panic or disrupting public peace would be investigated and prosecuted in line with the law.

The police assured residents of their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Osun State, urging citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and continue their daily activities without fear.

The statement further noted that security agencies remain on high alert, with covert operatives and personnel from the Violent Crime Response Unit deployed across the state to monitor and respond to any emerging threats.

Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious movements or security concerns to the nearest police station or other security agencies for swift action.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and stability across Osun State and ensuring that misinformation does not disrupt public order.
