The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Cosmopolitan University have agreed to strengthen collaboration on climate-smart technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation to improve weather services, agriculture and research in Nigeria.
The agreement followed a courtesy visit by the Vice-Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University, Carl Adams, to the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Charles Anosike, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Anosike said both institutions share a common goal of translating scientific research into practical solutions that improve people’s lives.
He highlighted NiMet’s achievements in producing research that supports national development and commended the university for embracing emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence to build climate-ready and climate-resilient communities.
In his remarks, Prof. Adams reaffirmed the university’s commitment to developing the next generation of indigenous AI scientists and promoting climate-smart innovations powered by satellite data and artificial intelligence.
Both institutions agreed to formalise the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will focus on climate-smart and digital agriculture for smallholder farmers, aviation research, staff exchange programmes, data analytics, AI applications and the use of meteorological information to improve livelihoods.
The meeting was also attended by the university’s Pro-Chancellor and other members of its senior management team.
