The Nigerian Army has announced a two-week military field training exercise in Bauchi State, urging residents not to panic over expected gunfire, explosions and the movement of troops and military equipment.
The exercise, codenamed Exercise MUGUN BUGU V, also known as Operation GARKUWAN DAJI, is scheduled to take place in Alkaleri Local Government Area from November 6 to 19, 2026.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Major Godfrey Abakpa, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Nigerian Army Training Centre, Kontagora.
The Army appealed to residents, farmers, herders and commuters in Alkaleri and neighbouring communities to remain calm throughout the exercise.

It explained that the sound of gunfire and explosives, as well as the movement of large numbers of soldiers and military equipment, would be part of the planned training activities.
The military also assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to protect lives and property during the exercise.
According to the Army, the annual field training exercise is designed to strengthen the operational readiness, effectiveness and preparedness of its personnel.
Residents were therefore urged not to mistake the planned military activities for an actual security threat.
The exercise will run for 14 days, ending on November 19, 2026.
