The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reassured Nigerians of heightened security vigilance nationwide amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and concerns about their potential global ripple effects.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, affirmed the Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and national stability. He stressed that Nigeria’s internal security architecture remains firm, proactive, and fully operational.

According to the statement, police commands across the country have intensified intelligence-driven operations as a precautionary measure. Commissioners of Police in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory have been directed to strengthen surveillance systems, enhance intelligence gathering, and deepen engagement with traditional and religious leaders.

The directive places special attention on the North West, North East, and North Central regions, with increased visibility policing around worship centres, public institutions, and other high-traffic locations. Officers have also been tasked with swiftly countering any attempt to exploit international developments to incite unrest or sow sectarian divisions.

The police leadership underscored that Nigeria will not serve as a battleground for imported ideological or religious conflicts. It warned that any attempt to transfer foreign tensions into the country would attract decisive legal consequences.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who signed the statement, called on community leaders to sustain peacebuilding efforts and urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.

He further encouraged Nigerians to report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police formation, reaffirming the Force’s resolve to preserve national security and public order at all times.
