The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reiterated its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s digital transformation and expanding the frontiers of telecommunications development.

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Aminu Maida, gave the assurance while speaking at the Enugu Tech Festival, describing the event as a reflection of Nigeria’s growing innovation ecosystem.

Maida noted that the vibrant atmosphere and strong participation at the festival underscored the steady growth of the country’s digital economy, driven by deliberate reforms, regulatory clarity, and investor confidence.

He commended the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, for advancing a digital acceleration roadmap aimed at positioning the state as a technology hub.

Telecom Growth Anchored on Policy Reforms
According to the NCC boss, Nigeria’s telecommunications expansion is the result of structured reforms and policies designed to promote competition, protect consumers, and attract investment.

He disclosed that the Commission, alongside stakeholders, is reviewing the National Telecommunications Policy to make it more modern and consumer-focused, while aligning it with emerging technologies and innovation trends.

The review, he said, seeks to build on the framework that has guided the sector’s development over the past two decades and adapt it to current realities in the digital space.

Renewed Hope Agenda and Sector Expansion
Maida also acknowledged the impact of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, implemented through the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani.

He noted that Nigeria now boasts over 179 million active mobile lines, describing the figure as evidence of sustained growth in connectivity nationwide.

The NCC maintained that it will continue to provide a robust regulatory framework to ensure that Nigeria’s digital economy remains competitive and globally relevant.
