The Labour Party has postponed its scheduled ward, local government, and state congresses, as well as its national convention earlier slated to begin March 26, 2026.

The decision followed a stakeholders’ meeting involving members of the party’s Interim National Working Committee (NWC) and representatives of labour unions.

According to the party, the postponement is intended to allow more members and prospective entrants to fully participate in the ongoing membership re-registration exercise.

Under the initial timetable, ward congresses were to commence on March 26, followed by local government congresses on March 28, state congresses on March 31, and the national convention on April 11.

As part of efforts to ensure a transparent and credible process, the party has inaugurated a 45-member Congresses and Convention Committee chaired by Ginger Onwusibe, who represents Isiala Ngwa South/Isiala Ngwa North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Other members of the committee include prominent party figures such as Obinna Aguocha, Amaobi Ogah, Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, Benedict Etanabene, and Emmanuel Emeruwa, among others.

While inaugurating the committee, the party’s National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, tasked members with ensuring diligence, impartiality, and thorough preparation to guarantee hitch-free congresses and convention.

The party also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), its members, and supporters nationwide for understanding, assuring that a new timetable will be announced in due course.
