A human rights activist and engineer, Comrade Gerald O. Katchy, has announced his ambition to represent Imo East Senatorial District, also known as Owerri Zone, in the Nigerian Senate under the platform of the African Action Congress (AAC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Katchy, who hails from Ahiazu Mbaise in Imo State, said his political ambition is driven by the need for stronger grassroots representation, social justice, accountability and greater participation of indigenous communities in decisions affecting their future.
Presenting his vision under the banner of an Indigenous Agenda 2027, the aspirant outlined four key priorities: thinking indigenous, producing indigenous, empowering indigenous and securing indigenous communities.
He argued that the people of Imo East must take greater ownership of their identity, resources, political representation and collective destiny rather than continually depending on others to determine their future.
Katchy is an engineer, farmer, philanthropist, media personality and human rights activist. He currently serves as National Coordinator of the Indigenous National Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Team (INAHURAT) and National Secretary of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), according to his profile.
His stated public-interest activities include advocacy for widows and children, campaigns against police brutality and extortion, and interventions in cases involving vulnerable individuals.
He has also been involved in campaigns for democratic accountability and the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. His profile further highlights community interventions involving local disputes and efforts to support the rescue of kidnapped residents.
The aspirant has reportedly featured on media platforms including Radio Nigeria, African Independent Television (AIT), Channels Television and News Central, where he has discussed issues relating to human rights, governance and social justice.
Explaining why he believes he should represent Imo East, Katchy said the district needs an accessible and independent-minded representative who will prioritise the interests of ordinary people.

He identified youth empowerment, public accountability, community security and the protection of marginalised groups as critical areas requiring attention.
Expressing appreciation to supporters, family members, colleagues and political associates, Katchy acknowledged their prayers, encouragement and contributions to his political journey.
He also expressed confidence in his ambition, attributing his hope for victory to faith in God and the support of those who share his vision.
His proposed political message for 2027 is anchored on the principles of justice, identity, representation and self-determination.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, Katchy’s aspiration adds to the political conversations surrounding representation and leadership in Imo East Senatorial District.
However, his proposed agenda and public-interest commitments will ultimately be measured by the clarity of his policy proposals, engagement with constituents and ability to translate his promises into tangible outcomes.
