The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has announced the deployment of operational and public education measures to ensure safer roads during the Valentine’s Day celebrations.

In a statement, the Corps Marshal warned motorists and celebrants to refrain from drunk driving, excessive speeding and reckless behaviour, stressing that such actions significantly increase the risk of road traffic crashes.

He directed Commanding Officers nationwide to intensify patrols through massive deployment of personnel to ensure improved visibility, effective traffic control and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.

According to him, operatives have been equipped with breathalysers and radar guns to test suspected drunk drivers and monitor speed violations. He emphasised that offenders would be prevented from continuing their journeys in order to avert avoidable deaths, injuries and damage to property.

Describing Valentine’s Day as a global celebration of love and goodwill in honour of Saint Valentine, the Corps Marshal urged motorists to demonstrate responsibility by complying fully with road safety laws.
He noted that the FRSC would not hesitate to sanction drivers found violating established traffic regulations.

The Corps Marshal also encouraged members of the public to utilise the FRSC’s 122 toll-free emergency line to report crashes, obstructions or cases of dangerous driving for prompt intervention.

He called on road users to cooperate with FRSC personnel deployed across the country, stating that their presence is aimed at safeguarding lives and property.

Parents and guardians were further advised to counsel their wards on responsible conduct during the celebrations, as statistics indicate that young people are particularly vulnerable during festive periods.
