The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has commended the Federal Government for reportedly clearing pension arrears worth about ₦758 billion owed to 957,045 retirees.
The group said the outstanding pension payments dated back to 2007, describing the reported clearance as a significant step towards addressing long-standing challenges in pension administration.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, TMV said the administration of President Bola Tinubu had taken steps to settle inherited pension liabilities and improve the welfare of retired federal workers.
The group described the payment as an effort to resolve years of accumulated pension arrears and provide relief to retirees who served the country in different capacities.
According to the statement, the clearance represents part of the government’s broader economic and institutional reforms under its Renewed Hope Agenda.
TMV argued that retirees deserved their benefits after years of service, adding that timely pension payments were essential to recognising their contributions to national development.
The group also praised the National Pension Commission (PenCom) for introducing the Zero Waiting Time Policy, which is aimed at reducing delays in pension payments.
It further commended the commission’s efforts to expand pension awareness, improve outreach and involve industry stakeholders in implementing the country’s pension policies.
TMV said these measures could contribute to a more efficient pension administration system and help address some of the difficulties retirees face when accessing their entitlements.
However, the figures and the claim that the outstanding arrears have been fully cleared were contained in the group’s statement and should be independently confirmed through official government or pension authorities.
