FCT Police Trace Katampe Bridge Body to Abuja Guest House, Arrest Three
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has uncovered new details surrounding the discovery of a man’s body under the Katampe Bridge along the Kubwa Expressway, Abuja, while also reporting the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and the arrest of suspected members of a “one-chance” robbery syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed the developments during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Abuja on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
According to Sanusi, the man’s body was discovered at about 9:00 a.m. on August 26 after his family had earlier reported him missing. Initial speculation had linked the case to possible kidnapping or “one-chance” robbery.
The Commissioner said investigators later established the identity of the deceased and discovered that his mobile phone was missing.
Although the phone had been switched off, detectives reportedly traced the deceased’s last known communication to Mrs Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area 2, Abuja.
Police said further investigation showed that Muhammed and the deceased had lodged at Good Samaritan Guest House on Second Avenue, Gwarimpa.
According to the police, Muhammed told investigators that she discovered the man was no longer breathing while they were at the guest house. She allegedly left the premises with his mobile phone instead of reporting the incident.
The police said hotel workers later gained access to the room after attempts to contact the occupants failed and found the man’s body.
Two workers, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly removed the body from the room and transported it to the Kubwa Expressway near Katampe, where it was dumped.
Sanusi said investigations are still ongoing to establish the exact cause and circumstances of the man’s death. He added that anyone found to have played a role in the death or the subsequent concealment and abandonment of the body would face the law.
Police Recover Two AK-47 Rifles
In a separate operation, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit recovered two AK-47 rifles and two magazines during an investigation into a suspected kidnapping syndicate.
Sanusi said the operation followed the arrest of Musbahu Ishak on August 2, 2026.
According to the Commissioner, further investigation led operatives to a suspected hideout in Kagarko Forest on August 16, where the weapons were recovered.
The police team was reportedly ambushed by suspected members of the gang while leaving the forest with the recovered weapons and the suspect.
A gun battle reportedly followed, during which a police officer sustained a gunshot injury to the chest, while Ishak was also injured. Both were taken to a hospital, where Ishak was pronounced dead, according to the police. The injured officer remained under treatment.
Police Arrest Suspected ‘One-Chance’ Gang Members
The Commissioner also announced the arrest of suspected members of a “one-chance” robbery syndicate operating in the FCT and surrounding areas.
He said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Team III, intercepted a Toyota Camry along the Goodluck Jonathan Expressway near the Court of Appeal Junction at about 10:00 p.m. on September 20.
Two occupants allegedly attempted to flee but were arrested.
They were identified as 41-year-old Okwudili Benjamin and 37-year-old Chinedu Mbaka.
Police said a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of nine Android phones, pliers, a wheel lock and other exhibits.
Preliminary investigations reportedly linked the suspects to several alleged “one-chance” robbery incidents in Abuja, while some of the recovered items were said to have been identified by previous victims.
Further investigation also led to the arrest of an alleged receiver of stolen property, identified as Osondu Benard, at NPC Junction, Nyanya.
The police said the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
Sanusi urged residents of the FCT to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to security agencies.
He stressed that public cooperation remains important in preventing crime and supporting ongoing investigations.
