The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has summoned leaders of farmers and herders in Dabiri and Paiko villages, Gwagwalada Area Council, for a peace meeting following reports of violence that threatened security in the communities.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, met with representatives of both groups at the command headquarters in Abuja on Monday, October 19, 2026, to address tensions and prevent further violence.
During the meeting, Sanusi urged farmers and herders to embrace dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence, warning that disputes must be resolved through lawful means rather than violence.
He cautioned community leaders against incitement, retaliation and other actions capable of escalating tensions, stressing that violence would endanger lives and undermine efforts to restore lasting peace.
The police commissioner also called on both groups to cooperate with security agencies by providing information and identifying individuals allegedly responsible for the attacks.
According to him, the actions of a few individuals should not be allowed to endanger entire communities, making cooperation between residents and security personnel essential to restoring public confidence.
Police Say Normalcy Has Returned
The command said the situation in the affected communities was under control and normalcy had been restored.
It added that security measures had been strengthened to prevent another breakdown of law and order.
Residents of Dabiri, Paiko and neighbouring communities were urged to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel deployed to the affected areas.

The police also encouraged law-abiding residents to resume their legitimate activities without fear, while advising farmers and herders to maintain peaceful relations and avoid actions that could reignite hostilities.
FCT Police Urge Residents to Report Suspicious Activities
The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
Residents can also contact the police through the following emergency numbers:
08032003913
08061581938
The police said cooperation from community members would be important in identifying potential threats, preventing further violence and maintaining security.
As efforts to restore peace continue, the command has urged farmers and herders to resolve their differences peacefully and work with security agencies to prevent further clashes.
