Abuja — As preparations intensify for the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, CP Sanusi, has unveiled a comprehensive security strategy aimed at ensuring a safe and incident-free event.

Speaking during his maiden media briefing at the Command Headquarters in Abuja, the police chief outlined an intelligence-led approach that prioritizes proactive policing over reactive responses. He said security personnel would be strategically deployed before, during, and after the convention to guarantee the safety of delegates, residents, and visitors.

CP Sanusi emphasized that the security arrangement extends beyond the APC convention, noting that the Command remains committed to protecting all public gatherings across the nation’s capital.

Addressing concerns about public trust in law enforcement, he acknowledged past challenges, including fears over compromised informant confidentiality and delayed emergency responses.

He assured residents that under his leadership, the Command would prioritize confidentiality, ensure rapid response to distress calls, and uphold human rights in all operations.
He further stressed that suspects in police custody would be treated with dignity, adding that arrest does not imply guilt.

On rising security concerns, the Commissioner vowed to tackle the resurgence of “one chance” robbery syndicates by deploying tested strategies that previously reduced such crimes in Abuja.

He also announced a renewed crackdown on manhole vandalism, describing it as economic sabotage, and warned that both perpetrators and buyers of stolen public infrastructure would face strict legal consequences.

Reaffirming his commitment to community policing, CP Sanusi called on residents to provide credible and timely information, assuring that the police would act swiftly on actionable intelligence.

With Abuja set to host one of Nigeria’s most significant political gatherings, the police leadership says all necessary measures are in place to ensure a secure environment for all.
