Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has urged former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to submit himself to investigation rather than portray himself as a victim of political persecution.
Adeyanju’s remarks come amid controversy surrounding an alleged incident involving El-Rufai at an airport, which has sparked public debate over claims of harassment and political targeting.

Reacting to the development, Adeyanju accused the former governor of previously suppressing dissent and demolishing properties linked to perceived political opponents during his time in office. He described it as ironic that El-Rufai would now claim to be facing persecution.
“The oppressors of yesterday cannot suddenly become heroes today,” Adeyanju said, alleging that the former governor had been a “prominent violator of human rights” and an “oppressor of the less privileged.”
He maintained that due process must take its course, stressing that El-Rufai should cooperate with any ongoing investigation.
“He should submit himself to investigation and probe. It is after the investigation is done if there is a prima facie case that he will be charged. Then he can have his day in court to defend himself,” Adeyanju stated.

As of press time, the Department of State Services has not issued an official statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the reported airport incident.
