📍Abuja | Media Report
The Labour Party has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its planned schedule for the 2026 elective congresses and national convention.

In a letter dated March 31, 2026, and addressed to the INEC Chairman, the party outlined a comprehensive timetable for its ward, local government area (LGA), and state congresses, culminating in a national convention.

The notification, signed by the party’s Caretaker National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Esther Usman, and Caretaker National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, stated that the exercise is in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), INEC guidelines, and the 1999 Constitution.

According to the schedule, ward congresses will be held on April 23, 2026, across all wards nationwide. This will be followed by LGA congresses on April 24, and state congresses on April 25, covering all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The party also announced that its National Convention will take place on April 28, 2026, at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State, where national executives are expected to be elected.

The Labour Party explained that the new timetable follows an earlier postponement of its activities to allow for broader participation of members, particularly to complete its ongoing digital membership registration.

The party urged INEC to acknowledge the notification and direct its state offices to monitor the congresses and convention in line with its statutory responsibilities.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles and internal party processes.
