📍Abuja, Nigeria
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Sports (NIS), Philip Shaibu, has congratulated Samson Adamu on his appointment as Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football.

In a statement he personally signed, Shaibu described the appointment as historic and a significant moment for Nigeria, noting that Adamu becomes the first Nigerian to occupy the position in over seven decades of CAF’s existence.

Adamu’s appointment was ratified during the CAF Congress held on March 29, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.
Shaibu praised Adamu’s professional track record, highlighting his previous role as CAF Director of Events and Tournaments, where he played a key role in organizing major continental competitions.

He also commended Adamu’s academic and global exposure, including his participation in the FIFA Master’s Programme in 2009, as well as his multilingual capabilities, which he said position him well for the demands of the office.

According to Shaibu, the appointment reflects Nigeria’s growing influence in international sports administration and serves as inspiration to young Nigerians and sports professionals across the continent.

He expressed confidence that Adamu would bring professionalism, innovation, and integrity to the role, contributing to the continued growth of football in Africa.

Shaibu also acknowledged the outgoing CAF General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba, for his contributions and wished him success in his future endeavors.
