The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports that suspected bandits issued a threat to attack Kungaboku Community and neighbouring Paze Community in Abuja, describing the alleged letter as the handiwork of mischief makers attempting to create panic.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the Command became aware of media reports published by Vanguard and Daily Trust on March 15 and 16, 2026,

claiming that bandits had sent a letter through a student of a private school threatening to attack the communities.

According to the police, the threat was allegedly made in retaliation for the neutralisation of a bandit commander during a recent security operation carried out by the FCT Police Command Anti-Kidnapping Unit in collaboration with personnel of the 7 Guards Battalion, Guards Brigade.

However, Adeh said a thorough investigation by the Command revealed that the letter did not originate from bandits but from individuals seeking to spread fear and confusion within the communities.

“The Command wishes to inform the general public that the said letter originated from mischief makers seeking to spread fear and panic within the community for their mischievous purposes,” the statement said.

The police therefore urged residents of Kungaboku and neighbouring communities to remain calm and disregard the letter, while also maintaining vigilance and security awareness.

To further reassure residents, the Command disclosed that additional security personnel have been deployed to the affected communities to prevent any possible attack and to strengthen the protection of lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory.

Residents were also encouraged to report any suspicious persons or activities to the FCT Police Command through its emergency lines.
