The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says its ongoing ward-level National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment drive is progressing steadily across the country.

The exercise, which officially commenced on February 16, 2026, is designed to bring registration centres closer to communities and improve access to identity enrolment services.

This was contained in a statement signed by Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, on March 3, 2026.

The statement reads, according to the Commission, the NIN remains a foundational requirement for accessing critical government services in Nigeria. Citizens and legal residents who have not yet registered are encouraged to take advantage of the decentralised ward-level enrolment centres.

What Applicants Should Know:

NIMC advised members of the public to:

Check the official website to locate the nearest designated enrolment centre within their ward

Cooperate with registration officialsProvide accurate and complete information during enrolment

Rely only on verified communication channels for updates

For official updates and information, the Commission directs applicants to its website and verified platforms:Website: www.nimc.gov.ngCall Centre: 0800-061-6462Pre-enrolment: penrol.nimc.gov.ng

Data modification portal: selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng

Applicants can also download the NINAUTH App on iOS and Google Play Store to manage aspects of their digital identity.

NIMC says the ward-level initiative is part of efforts to achieve inclusive and comprehensive identity coverage nationwide.
