The National Police Council (NPC) has ratified the appointment of Olatunji Rilwan Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.
The confirmation was announced on Monday following a meeting of the Council held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presided over the session, which commenced at about 2:15 p.m. inside the Council Chamber.

Confirming the development, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that council members unanimously endorsed Disu’s appointment.
“Yes, they have unanimously endorsed Disu as IGP,” Onanuga said.

Disu had earlier been appointed in an acting capacity following the resignation of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun, who stepped down citing family reasons.

The National Police Council is constitutionally empowered to advise the President on the appointment and removal of the Inspector-General of Police.

With the ratification, Disu now assumes full substantive authority as the nation’s top police officer, at a time when security challenges remain central to national discourse.
