NIMC to Begin Nationwide Ward-Level NIN Registration from February 16

The initiative aims to make National Identification Number registration more accessible to all Nigerians, including children and legal residents, as part of the government’s inclusive governance agenda.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that ward-level registration for the National Identification Number (NIN) will commence across Nigeria on Monday, February 16, 2026.

This nationwide exercise follows a presidential directive mandating the Commission to take NIN enrollment to the grassroots, ensuring every Nigerian citizen and legal resident is captured in the National Identity Database.

Registration will be free of charge, reinforcing the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive governance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.

The ward-level enrollment initiative is designed to increase accessibility, reduce travel burdens, and encourage full participation from all communities. It forms part of NIMC’s strategy to decentralize identity services and ensure that every citizen has the opportunity to obtain a NIN

.
To ensure a smooth rollout, NIMC has engaged state governments, local councils, traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, and faith-based organizations to raise awareness about the benefits and uses of the NIN.

The Commission has also initiated sensitization campaigns at all levels to encourage citizens to participate actively.

NIMC urges all Nigerians and legal residents who have not yet registered to take advantage of the exercise to enroll themselves, their children, parents, and other family members in their communities.

The ward enrolment schedule, showing the rotational movement of NIMC staff and licensed front-end partners, is available on the NIMC website: www.nimc.gov.ng. For inquiries, assistance, or complaints, the public can contact the toll-free line: 08000616462.

Why This Matters

Obtaining a NIN is essential for access to government services, SIM registration, banking, voting, and other public and private services. Ward-level enrollment ensures no citizen is left behind, advancing national identity inclusion and making public services more accessible to all Nigerians.

Call to Action
Make sure you and your family are registered for a NIN. Don’t miss this opportunity to secure your official identity.
