The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, received the Ambassador of Türkiye to Nigeria, His Excellency Mehmet Poroy, in Abuja, to discuss follow-up measures from the recent state visit of the Nigerian President to Ankara.

During the meeting, Ambassador Poroy commended the excellent coordination by Nigerian authorities that contributed to the success of the visit. He described the trip as a milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership between Nigeria and Türkiye, expressing optimism about the implementation of agreements reached by both nations’ leaders.
Responding, Minister Tuggar hailed the state visit as historic and transformative, noting that it had opened a new chapter in bilateral relations.

He highlighted the signing of nine landmark agreements during the visit, emphasizing their potential benefits for the governments and peoples of both countries.
The Minister also underscored opportunities for enhanced collaboration in training and capacity building, particularly through the partnership between the Nigerian Foreign Service Academy in Ijanikin, Lagos, and the Turkish Diplomatic Institute.
The discussion further established channels for continued engagement, including follow-up mechanisms and the planning of a Political Consultative Meeting later in the year, aimed at ensuring effective implementation of agreed initiatives.

The meeting reinforced the commitment of both nations to deepen cooperation across diplomatic, economic, and developmental fronts.
