Lagos, Nigeria – 4 February 2026 – On World Cancer Day, the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) is showcasing how precision oncology is transforming cancer care in Nigeria and the wider West African region by bringing advanced treatments, early interventions, and improved patient outcomes closer to home.

Aligned with this year’s World Cancer Day theme, “United by Unique,” AMCE is uniting specialist expertise, state-of-the-art technology, and patient-focused awareness initiatives to drive collective progress in cancer care.

A highlight of the centre’s ongoing efforts is its expanding radiation oncology programme, which recently achieved a milestone with the successful delivery of Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) a highly targeted form of radiotherapy that treats tumours with remarkable precision, reduces the number of treatment sessions, and minimizes impact on healthy tissue.

Dr Gabriel Boules, Clinical Director of Oncology, leads AMCE’s dedicated oncology team in bridging long-standing gaps in access to complex cancer care while dispelling misconceptions around radiotherapy and modern cancer treatments in Africa.

Throughout the month, AMCE will emphasize the critical role of early detection, contemporary treatment pathways, and locally available expertise in improving survival rates and enhancing patients’ quality of life.

As part of its World Cancer Day engagement, AMCE will also promote prevention and early screening, sharing regional cancer insights and offering up to 50% discounted screenings to encourage timely detection
