The Federal Government has reaffirmed Nigeria’s ongoing security and intelligence collaboration with international partners, including the United States of America, as part of sustained efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism across the country.
In a press release issued on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government confirmed that the structured cooperation has contributed to recent precision air strikes on identified terrorist targets in parts of North-West Nigeria.
According to the Ministry, the partnership operates within established international norms and bilateral agreements, encompassing intelligence sharing, strategic coordination and other lawful forms of support. It stressed that all engagements are guided by mutual respect for national sovereignty, international law and a shared commitment to regional and global security.
The government reiterated that the protection of civilian lives remains central to Nigeria’s counter-terrorism strategy, alongside the preservation of national unity and the protection of the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity. It noted that terrorist violence against any community Christian, Muslim or otherwise stands in direct opposition to Nigeria’s core values and poses a threat to international peace and security.
The Ministry further disclosed that Nigeria is working closely with its partners through diplomatic and security channels to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their funding and logistics, and curb cross-border threats. These efforts, it said, are being complemented by ongoing initiatives to strengthen Nigeria’s domestic security institutions and intelligence capacity.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured that it will continue engaging relevant partners and keep the public informed through official channels as developments unfold.
The statement was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa,, Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, and dated Friday, December 26, 2025.
