Abuja, December 17, 2025

The Federal Government has announced the full reopening of all 47 Federal Unity Secondary Schools earlier closed due to security concerns, reaffirming its firm commitment to the safety of students and the uninterrupted delivery of education across the country.

In a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on Tuesday, the government disclosed that academic activities have fully resumed in the affected schools following the reinforcement of security architecture within and around their campuses. Students have since returned safely, with many currently rounding off their December academic programmes, while others have successfully concluded their examinations.

The Ministry assured parents, guardians, and the general public that the safety, welfare, and well-being of students remain a top priority, stressing that the government is working closely with relevant security agencies to maintain stability and restore lasting normalcy in school environments nationwide.

“The Federal Government remains resolute in its responsibility to protect every Nigerian child and uphold their fundamental right to education in a safe and secure environment,” the statement read.

The Ministry further noted that the administration places strong emphasis on human capital development, describing education as a critical pillar for national growth and sustainable development. As such, it remains determined to prevent disruptions to the academic calendar, despite prevailing security challenges.

According to the statement, the safe return of students and the successful conduct of examinations in several Unity Colleges underscore the government’s resolve to keep learning on track under all circumstances.

The Federal Ministry of Education also expressed appreciation to parents, school administrators, and students for their patience, cooperation, and support, while reiterating its commitment to sustaining a secure, stable, and uninterrupted education system across the nation.

The statement was signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.
