Nigeria, UK Foreign Ministers Hold Talks to Deepen Bilateral Ties

London, UK — Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, has met with the British Foreign Secretary to explore new pathways for strengthening bilateral cooperation between both nations.

The meeting, held at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in London, focused on a wide range of shared priorities, including trade and investment, security, education, migration, and climate action.

Ambassador Tuggar described the engagement as “constructive and forward-looking,” emphasizing that it reaffirmed the deep-rooted friendship, mutual respect, and shared democratic values that continue to underpin Nigeria–UK relations.

He noted that both countries renewed their commitment to expanding collaboration in ways that deliver tangible benefits to citizens on both sides.

During the discussions, the ministers exchanged views on pressing regional and global developments, while exploring new opportunities for economic partnership and continued cooperation in defence, governance, and institutional strengthening.

Both sides also acknowledged the vital role of people-to-people connections and highlighted the contributions of the Nigerian diaspora community in advancing trade, innovation, and cultural exchange between the two countries.

The talks concluded with an agreement to maintain regular dialogue and follow up on identified areas of cooperation to ensure progress on mutual priorities.

Ambassador Tuggar’s visit is part of Nigeria’s broader diplomatic outreach to reinforce strategic partnerships, advance national interests, and promote sustainable development on the global stage.
