Abuja – July 2025 The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for honouring the late former President Muhammadu Buhari by renaming the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, after him.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade.
According to Dr. Alausa, the decision to rename the institution “Muhammadu Buhari University of Maiduguri” is a powerful and symbolic gesture that underscores the Tinubu administration’s respect for national heroes and its belief in education as a tool for nation-building.
“The Ministry of Education is deeply honoured that the education sector has been chosen as the channel through which the late President’s legacy will be permanently enshrined,” Alausa said.
He described President Tinubu’s action as not only a reflection of deep empathy and national gratitude but also a reaffirmation of his commitment to human capital development a value consistently championed by the late President Buhari.
Dr. Alausa noted that the renaming of the university serves as a strong statement on the centrality of education in driving sustainable development and fostering a shared national identity.
He further reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to upholding the principles of service, integrity, and excellence, which both the late President Buhari and President Tinubu exemplify in public service.
