The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal details of candidates vying for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship election, following the conclusion of party primaries and the closure of its online nomination portal.
In a statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun, INEC confirmed that 16 political parties successfully submitted the nomination forms of their governorship candidates and running mates ahead of the 6:00 p.m. deadline on Monday, May 12, 2025.
As mandated by Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and item 4 of the Commission’s election timetable, the Commission has now displayed each candidate’s personal particulars including Form EC9, academic qualifications, and other submitted documents at its state office in Awka and across all 21 Local Government Area offices in Anambra State.
INEC urged citizens, particularly party members and stakeholders, to scrutinize the published credentials. Mr. Olumekun reminded the public that any aspirant who participated in a party primary and possesses verifiable evidence of false information in a candidate’s documents has the legal right to seek redress in a Federal High Court, in accordance with Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act.
The final list of cleared candidates is expected to be released on June 9, 2025, in line with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act and item 7 of INEC’s schedule of activities.
The Anambra Governorship Election is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
