The Federal Republic of Nigeria warmly congratulates the Federal Republic of Germany on the successful election of Mr. Friedrich Merz as the new Chancellor.
This was contained in a statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa Spokesperson ,Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja on Wednesday, 7th May 2025
According to the statement, the Conservative leader secured 325 votes in the 630-seat Bundestag during the election held on Tuesday, 6th May 2025.
Nigeria applauds Germany’s enduring democratic traditions and the peaceful, transparent nature of the electoral process. This outcome reinforces the strength of democratic institutions in Germany.
Nigeria is confident that under Chancellor Merz’s leadership, Germany will continue to contribute meaningfully to global peace, security, and prosperity.
As longstanding partners, Nigeria looks forward to deepening its relationship with Germany in key areas such as trade, investment, security, and sustainable development. We also reaffirm our commitment to strong multilateral cooperation through the United Nations and other international platforms.
The Government and people of Nigeria wish Chancellor Merz a successful and impactful tenure. We express our readiness to work closely with Germany to strengthen ties for the mutual benefit of both nations and the wider global community.
