On March 15, 2025, the official closing date for applications, Professor Khaled El-Enany—endorsed by both the African Union and the League of Arab States—officially submitted his vision for the future of UNESCO.
On this occasion, Professor El-Enany reaffirmed his commitment to shaping a UNESCO that is closer to the people, rooted in local realities, and driven by its core missions: education, culture, science, and intercultural dialogue. Drawing on over 30 years of experience and insights gained from more than 50 visits around the world during his campaign, his vision reflects a deep understanding of Member States’ aspirations. He advocates for more inclusive governance, greater representation for countries of the Global South, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence to benefit all humanity.
Supported by a broad international coalition, his candidacy embodies a call for a renewed, responsive, and united multilateralism.
Khaled El-Enany Addresses UNESCO Executive Board During Official Hearing
On April 9, 2025, Professor Khaled El-Enany appeared before UNESCO’s Executive Board to present his vision for the Organization’s future and to answer questions during the official candidate hearing.
Over a 90-minute session, he outlined the key pillars of his platform: strengthening UNESCO’s field presence, promoting inclusive governance and innovative financing, and reaffirming the central role of culture, education, science, and intercultural dialogue in international action.
In his responses to Member States’ questions, Professor El-Enany emphasized a pragmatic, human-centered approach, attentive to the real needs of people and the global challenges of today.
Endorsed three times by the African Union—in February, July, and September 2024—his candidacy has continued to gather momentum. Following the hearing, he received further endorsements from several countries and international partners, signaling growing support for his vision and leadership.
