Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has urged Abia indigenes living in Valencia to uphold the values of hard work, integrity, unity and resilience, saying their conduct abroad reflects the image of Nigeria and their home state.
Ikpeazu gave the charge on Sunday, November 1, 2026, while serving as Special Guest of Honour at the 16th anniversary celebration of Ndi Abia in Diaspora, Valencia Chapter, Spain.
Addressing members of the Abia community and other Nigerians at the gathering, the Ambassador emphasised the importance of being responsible representatives of Nigeria while maintaining strong connections with their cultural identity and homeland.
He described Abians as enterprising people, particularly recognising their contributions to tailoring, shoemaking and other entrepreneurial activities.
According to him, Nigerians living abroad play an important role in building cultural bridges, attracting investment and shaping international perceptions of the country through their daily interactions with host communities.

Ikpeazu encouraged members of Ndi Abia in Diaspora to strengthen their bonds, support one another and explore opportunities that could contribute to development in both Spain and Abia State.
The former Abia State governor, who assumed office as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain in September 2026, also congratulated the Valencia chapter on sustaining the association for 16 years.
He assured members of the Nigerian community that the Embassy would continue to support their welfare and work with diaspora organisations to address issues affecting Nigerians in Spain.
In his remarks, Chairman of Ndi Abia in Diaspora, Valencia Chapter, Mr Endy Okoroafor, expressed appreciation to members, founding leaders and elders whose commitment had sustained the organisation over the years.
Okoroafor highlighted the association’s progress, including its successful formal registration after facing difficulties under previous administrations.
He disclosed that the organisation, formerly known as Abia State Congress in Diaspora, had now secured full registration, describing the development as an important milestone in its growth.
Reaffirming the association’s commitment to unity, the chairman invoked the Igbo expression, “Onye Aghala Nwanne Ya”, meaning “Let no one leave their brother behind”.
He stressed that Abians, regardless of their local government areas of origin, should remain united by their shared identity and responsibility towards one another.
The anniversary celebration featured cultural performances, reflections on the association’s 16-year journey, the unveiling of an almanac, award presentations and networking among Abia indigenes in Valencia.
The gathering highlighted the growing importance of organised diaspora associations in preserving cultural identity, strengthening community relationships and contributing to Nigeria’s international engagement.
