Electricity supply has been restored to areas of Abuja affected by a transformer fault at the Kukwaba transmission substation after the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) completed repairs.
TCN’s Abuja Region said bulk power supply was restored to the 60MVA, 132/33kV Transformer 1 at 4:14 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, following the successful identification and rectification of the fault.
The transformer developed a fault at about 8:37 p.m. on Monday, October 19, disrupting bulk electricity supply to connected feeders.
According to TCN, the restoration means the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) can resume taking electricity from the transmission substation for distribution to customers in the affected areas.

The communities and locations expected to benefit include Durumi, Sunnyvale, Human Rights Radio, Pyakasa and the Trademore axis.
The outage had disrupted electricity supply to customers connected to the affected feeders, although the extent of the impact on individual households and businesses was not specified.
TCN apologised to electricity consumers in the affected areas for the inconvenience caused by the interruption.
The company said its technical team had successfully rectified the identified faults, enabling the transformer to resume supplying bulk electricity to AEDC.
While the restoration marks a return of bulk power supply to the affected distribution network, electricity availability at individual homes and businesses will depend on AEDC’s distribution network and local operating conditions.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas can contact AEDC for updates on the availability of electricity in their specific locations.
