Nigerians living in Qatar have honoured Nigeria’s Ambassador to the country, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, with an award recognising improvements in consular services, including the faster processing and delivery of passports.
The award was presented during a ceremony organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) in Qatar to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The event attracted the Executive Director of the Workers Support and Insurance Fund under Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, Ms Kholoud Saif Al Kubaisi, alongside members of the diplomatic community.
The Nigerian community recognised Yakubu for efforts to improve consular services and make passport processing more efficient for Nigerians living in Qatar.
Hundreds of Nigerians in the country recently received their new passports within a record period of two weeks, a development highlighted as evidence of improved service delivery.
Speaking at the event, Yakubu commended the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, for the prompt deployment of an intervention team and the production of the passports.
The ambassador’s remarks highlighted the role of collaboration between Nigeria’s diplomatic mission, the Ministry of Interior and the Nigeria Immigration Service in addressing passport-related challenges faced by Nigerians abroad.
The recognition comes amid continuing efforts to improve consular support for Nigerians in the diaspora, particularly access to essential documentation and timely passport services.
For Nigerians living overseas, efficient passport services remain crucial to maintaining valid travel documents and meeting immigration and other official requirements.
