Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have foiled two separate abduction attempts and rescued 10 victims in different locations across Zamfara State.
The operations took place on September 27, 2026, in Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the state, according to the Joint Task Force.
In Maru LGA, troops of Sector 2 received information that terrorists had abducted villagers at Kade Daba Village in Kanoma District.
The troops quickly moved to the area and engaged the terrorists, rescuing three victims.
Further searches around the area led to the rescue of another victim, bringing the number rescued in the operation to four.
In a separate incident along the Tsafe–Funtua road in Tsafe LGA, troops conducting a picketing operation heard sporadic gunshots around Kwanoni.
The troops immediately moved towards the location and encountered terrorists withdrawing through the surrounding high ground.
According to the JTF, the troops engaged the terrorists and forced them to flee the area.
Before the troops arrived, the terrorists had reportedly set a Sharon vehicle ablaze while attempting to abduct its occupants.
The occupants, however, escaped before the vehicle was completely consumed by fire.
During the operation, troops also rescued six people from another vehicle that reportedly lost control following the sporadic gunshots.
The affected vehicle was later towed away from the main road to allow traffic to move freely.
The Theatre Commander of JTF NW OPFY commended the troops for their vigilance, quick response and professionalism in protecting residents and motorists within the task force’s area of responsibility.
The commander also reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to sustained operations against terrorists and efforts to restrict their activities across the North-West.
The public was urged to continue providing timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities to the nearest security agency or through appropriate official channels.
