The United States has delivered military equipment to the Nigerian Air Force as Washington and Abuja deepen their defence and security cooperation.

The equipment was transported by a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircraft under an ongoing Foreign Military Sales (FMS) agreement between both countries.

The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced the delivery on Thursday through its official X account, describing it as a demonstration of the growing security partnership between the United States and Nigeria.

AFRICOM said the equipment arrived over the weekend and would support Nigeria’s efforts to counter terrorism and other security threats.
“Partnership in action,” the command said while highlighting the delivery as part of the broader U.S.-Nigeria defence relationship.

The latest support comes as Nigeria continues military operations against terrorist, insurgent and criminal networks, particularly in the North-East and North-West, where security challenges remain persistent.

According to AFRICOM, the equipment is intended to support Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts and strengthen the country’s ability to respond to security threats.

The delivery also highlights the logistical side of the bilateral defence relationship, with the U.S. using its C-17 strategic airlift capability to move military equipment in support of Nigeria’s operational requirements.

Nigeria has increasingly relied on international defence partnerships for training, intelligence sharing, equipment and other forms of technical support as its armed forces confront multiple security challenges across the country.

The latest delivery signals continued U.S. backing for Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen its military capabilities while reinforcing Washington’s wider security partnership with Abuja.
