Nigerian security forces operating under Operation FANSAN YANMA have reportedly carried out airstrikes on suspected terrorist positions in Yankuzo community, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The operation was reportedly conducted on the evening of September 7, 2026, with five military aircraft said to have taken part in a coordinated aerial engagement over the community.

According to local sources, the aircraft targeted suspected armed fighters in the area, reportedly killing several and injuring others.

However, the exact number of casualties could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.

One of those reportedly killed was identified by sources as Isiya Gurgu, described as a close associate of a notorious bandit leader known as Musa Commander, who is reportedly linked to the Ado Aleru network.

Sources also alleged that Musa Commander maintains links with armed groups operating around communities including Tsamiya and other settlements in the area.

The air operation was reportedly conducted with efforts to minimise the risk of civilian casualties, with the strikes said to have focused on individuals observed carrying weapons or wearing military-style clothing.

Several other suspected fighters were reportedly wounded during the operation.

Yankuzo has been described by local sources as an area with the presence of armed groups allegedly linked to the Ado Aleru network.

Residents in and around the community have reportedly faced persistent security threats from armed groups operating across parts of Tsafe and neighbouring areas.

Security authorities are expected to continue assessing the outcome of the operation, including the number of casualties and the extent of damage inflicted on the targeted group.

As of the time of publication, official confirmation from the relevant military or security authorities on the operation, identities of those affected and casualty figures was not immediately available.

Media360Impact will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as verified information emerges.
