ABUJA, August 13, 2026 — The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has secured ISO 9001:2015 certification for its aeronautical meteorological services at Yola, Osubi and Owerri airports.

The certification marks another step in NiMet’s efforts to strengthen the quality, consistency and reliability of weather information provided to the aviation industry.

According to the agency, the certification followed a successful third-party audit conducted by Certech Inc. Canada between July 20 and 23, 2026.

The audit assessed NiMet’s products and services delivered to airlines and other aviation stakeholders operating at the three airports.

Accurate and timely meteorological information is critical to safe and efficient flight operations, as airlines, pilots, airports and air traffic management authorities rely on weather data for flight planning, take-off, landing and other operational decisions.

NiMet said the expansion of its ISO-certified services provides an additional framework for maintaining consistency, managing operational risks and strengthening quality control in the weather information supplied to Nigeria’s aviation sector.

The agency added that the latest certification demonstrates its commitment to meeting internationally recognised standards while supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to improve aviation safety.

NiMet said the achievement will also contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s position in global aviation and meteorological assessments.

The certification of the three additional airports brings further focus to the role of professional meteorological services in supporting safer and more efficient air transportation across Nigeria.
