Popular human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has raised concerns over the safety of comedian and social commentator Oguche Ugbede Kenneth, popularly known as Sarkin Dariya, following alleged threats linked to his recent satirical comments on national issues.
In a public statement issued on behalf of his client, Adeyanju said Sarkin Dariya had only exercised his constitutional right to freedom of expression through lawful satire and comedy.
According to the statement, the comedian has recently been subjected to a series of alleged threats after making humorous commentaries on matters of public concern affecting Nigerians.
The lawyer described the situation as a serious concern and called on relevant security agencies and government authorities to take immediate steps to ensure Sarkin Dariya’s safety.
He stressed that the authorities have a constitutional responsibility to protect the comedian and warned that anyone found responsible for any harm that may come to him—either directly or indirectly would be held accountable under the law.
Adeyanju expressed confidence that the appropriate authorities would act swiftly to guarantee his client’s safety and uphold his constitutional rights.
The statement comes amid growing public conversations about freedom of expression, satire and the safety of content creators and commentators in Nigeria.
