Abuja – The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has praised the Nigerian Army for its continued commitment to ensuring the safety of Corps Members and protecting NYSC formations across the country.
General Nafiu gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Jos, Major General Folusho Oyinlola.
He said the success of the NYSC Scheme depends largely on a peaceful and secure environment, noting that security remains a key requirement for the effective implementation of the Scheme’s programmes.

According to him, the Nigerian Army has continued to provide the support needed for the smooth conduct of NYSC activities, particularly orientation courses.
The Director-General noted that no orientation course has ever been postponed in states under the jurisdiction of the 3 Division due to security concerns, describing the Army’s support as commendable.
General Nafiu disclosed that more than 7,000 Corps Members are currently serving in Plateau State, contributing significantly to the state’s socio-economic development through their various places of primary assignment.
He added that since its establishment, the NYSC has continued to foster national unity, integration and peaceful coexistence by promoting cultural exchange, encouraging inter-tribal marriages and creating opportunities for youth empowerment and employment.
The NYSC boss also highlighted the Scheme’s contributions to Nigeria’s health and education sectors through the deployment of Corps doctors, nurses and teachers to underserved communities across the country.
He appealed for the continued support of the Nigerian Army in providing a secure environment that would enable the Scheme to effectively carry out its mandate.

General Nafiu further disclosed that the NYSC is implementing reforms aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing service delivery nationwide.
Responding, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, commended the NYSC Director-General for the reforms and achievements recorded since assuming office.
He described General Nafiu as a worthy ambassador of the Nigerian Army and also praised the NYSC Plateau State Coordinator, staff and Corps Members for their dedication and commitment to national service.
Major General Oyinlola reaffirmed the commitment of the 3 Division to ensuring the safety and security of Corps Members serving within its area of responsibility, adding that the positive impact of the NYSC Scheme across Nigeria remains undeniable.
