ABUJA – The Federal Government has launched a National Compendium on the Economic and Tourism Profiles of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing it as a strategic tool for attracting investments, creating jobs, boosting tourism and accelerating economic development across the country.
Speaking at the Sub-National Government Economic and Tourism Information Roundtable and the official launch of the publication in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the compendium provides a comprehensive showcase of the economic and tourism opportunities available in every part of Nigeria.
According to the Minister, each state possesses unique resources and comparative advantages spanning agriculture, solid minerals, manufacturing, technology, trade, culture, tourism and creative industries, which can be leveraged to attract investors and stimulate local economies.
He said the publication aligns with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation’s mandate to project Nigeria’s image positively, promote national development and provide credible information to both local and international audiences.
Idris described the compendium as more than a reference document, noting that it serves as an investment guide and tourism promotion tool designed to highlight the strengths and opportunities of Nigeria’s sub-national entities.

The Minister noted that the initiative comes at a period when the Federal Government is implementing economic reforms aimed at improving investor confidence, expanding business opportunities and positioning the country for sustainable growth.
He added that providing reliable and accessible information about the economic and tourism potential of states would support ongoing efforts to unlock development at the sub-national level and encourage greater private sector participation.
Calling on state governments, investors, development partners, diplomats and private sector stakeholders to utilise the publication, Idris said the document offers valuable insights that can support investment decisions and economic planning.
Describing the roundtable as a platform for action, the Minister urged stakeholders to move beyond discussions and focus on translating Nigeria’s vast potential into tangible economic outcomes through partnerships, investments and collaborative development efforts.
He commended the Nigerian Press Council for championing the initiative and praised its Executive Secretary, Dr. Dili Ezughah, for providing leadership that made the project possible.
The event featured the official presentation and launch of the National Compendium, which documents the economic and tourism profiles of all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Among dignitaries present were the Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, Dr. Tope Fasua, representing Vice President Kashim Shettima; Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule; Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, represented by Permanent Secretary Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammad; Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Press Council, Dr. Dili Ezughah; state commissioners of information, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners and private sector representatives.
