The Federal Government has concluded the screening process for Nigerians in South Africa who registered for evacuation, clearing the path for final arrangements to bring them back home.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, explaining that the screening exercise began on Thursday as part of a coordinated effort between Nigerian and South African authorities.

According to Ebienfa, the operation was carried out in partnership with the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation, the South African Police Service, and immigration officials.

He stated that the screening exercise was necessary to determine the exact number of Nigerians eligible for evacuation before the Federal Government proceeds with logistical arrangements, including the deployment of aircraft for their return to Nigeria.

The ministry noted that further updates would be communicated as preparations for the evacuation continue.

The planned evacuation comes amid ongoing concerns involving the welfare and safety of some Nigerians residing in South Africa.
