Angola’s national carrier, TAAG Angola Airlines, has announced the launch of a direct flight service between Luanda and Guangzhou, China, scheduled to commence on June 23, 2026, as part of its international expansion strategy aimed at strengthening Africa–Asia connectivity.
The announcement was made during a formal launch event held in Luanda on Tuesday, attended by Angolan and Chinese government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, aviation stakeholders, business leaders and corporate partners.
The event also marked the official opening of ticket sales for the new route, which will connect Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport in Luanda with Guangzhou, one of China’s major commercial and industrial hubs.
According to TAAG, the new service is designed to enhance air connectivity between Angola and China, two countries that have maintained strong diplomatic and economic relations for decades.
The route will initially operate once weekly, with flights departing Luanda every Tuesday. Operations will be conducted using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a long-haul aircraft known for fuel efficiency, passenger comfort and modern cabin design.
The airline stated that the aircraft deployment is intended to improve the long-distance travel experience while ensuring operational efficiency and reliability on intercontinental routes.
TAAG described the Luanda–Guangzhou connection as a significant milestone in its strategy to expand its global network and position itself as a key aviation bridge between Africa and Asia.
The airline added that the route is expected to facilitate smoother movement of business travellers, tourists, investors and cargo, while opening new opportunities for trade and economic cooperation between both regions.

Industry observers note that Angola and China maintain strong economic ties, with cooperation spanning infrastructure, energy, construction, telecommunications and agriculture. The new direct flight is expected to further deepen these relations by improving travel efficiency and reducing reliance on connecting hubs.
Beyond commercial benefits, TAAG said the route will support broader cultural, educational and tourism exchanges, fostering stronger people-to-people connections between both countries.
Officials also highlighted the strategic importance of the newly developed Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, noting that the Guangzhou route aligns with Angola’s ambition to transform the facility into a major international aviation hub.
TAAG emphasized that the expansion of its intercontinental network will enhance Angola’s role in global aviation and logistics, while attracting increased investment and strengthening economic activity.
The airline reaffirmed its commitment to developing Angola’s civil aviation sector and expanding international partnerships, noting that the new route reflects its broader vision of positioning Angola as a gateway between Africa and global markets.
