The Federal Government has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the Czech Republic through expanded cooperation in trade, agriculture, technology transfer, education and sustainable development.
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, made this known while receiving the Czech Republic’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Tomas Vyprachticky, in Abuja.

This was contained in a statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja Wednesday, 27th May 2026

During the meeting, Ambassador Vyprachticky congratulated the minister on her appointment and conveyed the Czech government’s commitment to deepening engagement with Nigeria across key sectors including healthcare, renewable energy, industrialisation, investment, innovation and technical cooperation.

He described Nigeria as a strategic partner with enormous political and economic potential in Sub-Saharan Africa, adding that the Czech Embassy in Abuja remained committed to facilitating government-to-government and business partnerships that would boost mutually beneficial economic cooperation.

Officials of the Czech Embassy also highlighted several ongoing development and commercial projects across states including Taraba, Delta, Edo, Ondo, Bauchi, Plateau, Lagos, Rivers and Zamfara.

Particular attention was drawn to the delivery of nearly 1,000 specially designed tractors and agricultural equipment to Taraba State in 2024. The equipment, jointly designed by Nigerian and Czech engineers, was aimed at supporting mechanised farming and improving agricultural productivity.

Speaking during the engagement, Odumegwu-Ojukwu recalled the longstanding diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the former Czechoslovakia, especially in the areas of industrialisation, technical cooperation, educational exchange programmes and machinery supply.

She commended the Czech Republic for its contributions to Nigeria’s development and stressed the need to institutionalise bilateral relations through stronger coordination mechanisms.

The minister proposed the revitalisation of bilateral frameworks, including the establishment of a Joint Commission to coordinate cooperation in critical sectors such as defence, trade, agriculture, education, technology and industrial development.

Both countries expressed satisfaction with the growing relationship and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding diplomatic and economic cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
