The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated the United Republic of Tanzania on the occasion of its Union Day, commemorated annually on April 26.

Union Day marks the historic merger of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964, a milestone that laid the foundation for Tanzania’s unity, political stability, and socio-economic growth.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria described the occasion as a reflection of the resilience, foresight, and unity of the Tanzanian people in building a strong and cohesive nation.

The government commended Tanzania for its consistent commitment to democratic governance, peace, and regional cooperation across East Africa and the broader African continent. It also acknowledged the country’s contributions to peacekeeping efforts, conflict resolution, and development initiatives.

Nigeria noted that both countries share longstanding and mutually beneficial relations, with cooperation spanning trade, education, culture, tourism, and multilateral engagement.

The statement further highlighted ongoing collaboration between Nigeria and Tanzania within international platforms such as the African Union and the United Nations, aimed at advancing regional integration, sustainable development, and global peace.

Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, Nigeria expressed readiness to deepen cooperation with Tanzania in areas of shared interest.

The Federal Government also extended its best wishes to the Tanzanian government and people for continued unity, peace, and national development.
