ABUJA – The national leadership of the Labour Party has reaffirmed its confidence in the party’s 2027 presidential ticket, expressing strong support for its presidential candidate, Dr. Chibuzo Sunday Okereke, and vice-presidential candidate, Hajja Bintu Konto.

The endorsement came during an interactive session held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, where party leaders described the Okereke-Konto ticket as a reflection of the Labour Party’s commitment to inclusive governance, equity and social justice.

Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, said the selection of Hajja Bintu Konto as the party’s vice-presidential candidate demonstrates the party’s resolve to promote women’s participation in leadership.

According to her, the decision aligns with the Labour Party’s philosophy of “Mama, Papa, Pikin,” which promotes inclusiveness and equal opportunities for all Nigerians.

She noted that the Labour Party is the only major political party in the 2027 presidential race to field a woman as its vice-presidential candidate, describing the move as a practical demonstration of its commitment to gender inclusion.

Senator Usman expressed confidence that Konto’s professional achievements, leadership experience and humanitarian background would strengthen governance if the party wins the 2027 presidential election.

The Labour Party chairman also praised Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, describing him as a model of the party’s governance philosophy.
She highlighted the governor’s recently enacted social welfare legislation for senior citizens as evidence of the Labour Party’s people-centred approach to governance and urged Nigerians to support the party in future elections.

Also speaking, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Chibuzo Sunday Okereke, described Hajja Bintu Konto as a dependable and experienced partner capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.

He stressed the importance of women’s participation in governance, saying no nation can achieve meaningful progress without giving women prominent roles in leadership.

Dr. Okereke commended Konto’s humanitarian work and public health advocacy, expressing confidence that their combined experience would provide effective leadership for Nigeria.

He also praised Senator Nenadi Usman for her leadership and support in strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In her remarks, Hajja Bintu Konto thanked the Labour Party leadership for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to serve Nigerians with dedication if elected vice president.

She recalled her humanitarian efforts during the Boko Haram insurgency, explaining that despite losing her husband to the conflict, she continued providing relief and support to affected communities across Northern Nigeria.

According to her, those experiences have equipped her with practical knowledge that would help address Nigeria’s security and humanitarian challenges.

Konto added that she joined the Labour Party because she believes it offers a clear vision and practical solutions for tackling the country’s leadership and governance challenges.

The interactive session concluded with party leaders reaffirming their commitment to presenting what they described as a competent, compassionate and transformative leadership team for the 2027 general elections.
