New York, September 2025 – Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s role as a strategic anchor state in Africa, urging the United States to prioritize stronger partnerships with the country. He made the call during a high-level investment roundtable hosted by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
This was contained in a statement signed by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy ministry of foreign affairs

The meeting, attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima and top executives from leading American firms, explored investment opportunities across Nigeria’s priority sectors, including energy, agriculture, technology, and finance.
Addressing the forum, Tuggar emphasized that U.S. engagement in Africa would yield greater impact if anchored on strategic states like Nigeria. “With our vast population, abundant resources, and continental scale, Nigeria is a natural destination for U.S. business partnerships. Such collaboration will reduce costs, provide access to a skilled talent pool, and help integrate millions of informal businesses into the formal economy,” he stated.
The Minister highlighted that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigeria is pursuing economic diplomacy and reforms aimed at attracting investment, enhancing ease of doing business, and ensuring that global partnerships deliver tangible benefits for citizens. He stressed that Nigeria’s demographic advantage, resource base, and continental leadership position it as Africa’s premier hub for global investment.
