Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted a suspected terrorist attack and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during separate operations in Kaduna State.
The operations were conducted on September 23 and 24, 2026, as troops intensified efforts to disrupt the activities of terrorists and other criminal elements across the Joint Operations Area.
According to the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 1 acted on intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists through bushes around Rijana in Kachia Local Government Area.
The troops reportedly mobilised to the area and laid an ambush. They engaged the suspected terrorists after sighting them, forcing the group to flee.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition, a magazine carrier and a military jungle hat, among other items.
In a separate operation at Awom village in Kachia LGA on September 23, troops conducted a clearance operation aimed at denying terrorists and other criminal elements access to safe havens within the community.
During the operation, the troops arrested a suspect identified as Jacob, who was allegedly found in possession of a locally fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition.
The suspect is currently in military custody for further investigation, according to the military.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said its troops would continue offensive and clearance operations across the Joint Operations Area to disrupt terrorist activities, deny criminal elements freedom of action and protect communities.
