Abuja — The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated the Government and people of Senegal on the occasion of their Independence Anniversary, describing it as a milestone that reflects the nation’s resilience and commitment to self-determination.

In a statement issued and signed by Mr. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja on Saturday 4, April 2026 noted that Senegal’s independence marks a significant chapter in its history, symbolising the country’s dedication to democratic governance, political stability, and national development.

The government commended Senegal for its consistent role as a model of democratic maturity and constructive engagement within Africa, particularly in advancing peace and stability across the West African sub-region.

Nigeria also acknowledged Senegal’s contributions to regional cooperation through platforms such as ECOWAS, the African Union, and the United Nations, noting that both countries share a longstanding partnership built on mutual respect and collaboration in areas including trade, culture, education, and security.

Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, Nigeria expressed readiness to deepen cooperation and enhance people-to-people ties with Senegal in pursuit of shared prosperity and continental progress.

The statement concluded with best wishes to the Government and people of Senegal for continued peace, unity, and development.
