The Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, urging citizens to strengthen national unity, patriotism and democratic participation.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday to mark the anniversary, ACOE Chairman, Comrade Sola Akingboye, called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to reflect on the country’s journey since independence while remaining committed to peaceful coexistence and national development.
Akingboye urged Nigerians to look beyond ethnic, religious, political and geographical differences, describing the country’s diversity as an opportunity to build a more inclusive and prosperous nation.
The association also encouraged citizens to participate actively in the 2027 General Elections, noting that citizens have a role to play in determining the country’s direction through the democratic process.
According to ACOE, political actors, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders should promote issue-based campaigns and peaceful engagement before, during and after the elections.

The association further urged Nigerians to reject violence, hate speech, misinformation and other actions that could undermine peace and democratic stability.
Akingboye stressed the responsibility of the media, particularly online platforms, to provide credible information and promote responsible public discourse as the country moves towards the 2027 elections.
He said the Independence Anniversary should serve as an opportunity for Nigerians to renew their commitment to the country and contribute to its growth and development.
ACOE reaffirmed its commitment to responsible journalism, national unity and democratic values, while urging citizens to work collectively towards a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
The association wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary and expressed optimism about the country’s ability to overcome its challenges and realise its potential.
Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960, and is marking 66 years of independence in 2026. The Federal Government has designated October 1 as a public holiday for the anniversary.
