Abuja. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026, highlighting the vital role women play in advancing technology and national development.
International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8, dates back to the early 20th century and recognises the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the world.
In its message to commemorate the day, the Commission praised the resilience, innovation and growing contributions of Nigerian women in the technology sector and other professional fields.
The NCC emphasised that empowering women through digital access and opportunities remains critical to building an inclusive and connected society.

“As the world marks International Women’s Day 2026, let us continue bridging the digital divide and empowering women to thrive in a connected world,” the Commission stated.
The Commission also reiterated the importance of policies and initiatives that support women’s participation in information and communication technology (ICT), noting that gender inclusion is essential for sustainable development.
International Women’s Day continues to serve as a global platform to celebrate women’s achievements while advocating for equality, opportunity and empowerment.
