The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has paid a condolence visit to the families of three police officers who lost their lives while carrying out their duties in Zamfara State, reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of officers and their loved ones.

The visit, which took place in Zamfara State, was attended by the Commissioner of Police, Hauwa Ibrahim, the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Abubakar Nakwada, and family members of the fallen officers.

During the visit, the IGP expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved families, describing the deceased officers as patriots who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation. He noted that the sacrifices of police personnel serving in high-risk areas across the country remain critical to maintaining law and order and protecting citizens from criminal elements.

The visit comes amid ongoing security operations in Zamfara State, one of the states most affected by banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in Nigeria’s North-West region. Security personnel, including police officers, have continued to face significant risks while conducting operations against armed groups in the area.

The police chief reassured the families that the Force would not forget the sacrifices made by their loved ones and pledged continued institutional support. The Nigeria Police Force under Disu has repeatedly emphasized welfare initiatives for serving and fallen officers, including the payment of insurance benefits and support packages for next of kin.

Earlier this year, the IGP approved the disbursement of over ₦2.4 billion to more than 1,000 beneficiaries and families of deceased police personnel under various welfare and insurance schemes.

According to the Force leadership, supporting the families of officers who die in active service remains a key component of police welfare reforms. The IGP has consistently maintained that while no amount of financial assistance can replace a lost loved one, the Force has a responsibility to stand by the families left behind and honour the memory of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The condolence visit also served as a reminder of the dangers faced daily by security personnel deployed across conflict-prone areas of the country and the continuing efforts by the police and other security agencies to restore peace and stability in Zamfara state
