The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Algerian President, Liamine Zeroual, who died at the age of 84.

In a statement issued and signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, stated that Nigeria conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Algeria, as well as to the family of the late statesman.

According to the statement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, extended sympathies to his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, noting that Nigeria stands in solidarity with Algeria during this period of national mourning.

Nigeria described the late Zeroual as a distinguished leader, patriot, and elder statesman whose contributions came at a critical period in Algeria’s history. His leadership during a challenging transition phase and efforts toward political stability and democratic development were widely acknowledged.

The statement further noted that Zeroual’s legacy transcends national boundaries, with his contributions to peace, unity, and governance recognized across Africa.

Nigeria also offered prayers for strength and comfort to the people of Algeria as they mourn the loss of a respected national figure.
